About me

I spent nearly two decades in the cybersecurity vendor world, working for names you’d recognize—McAfee, Symantec, TrendMicro, Palo Alto Networks. Good companies, solid products. But I got increasingly uncomfortable with how the industry operates: the fear-mongering, the vendor lock-in, the overselling of solutions that small businesses don’t actually need.

So in 2023, I did something about it. I founded BARE Cybersecurity with a straightforward mission: help small businesses and startups build real resilience—the kind that makes them safer tomorrow than they are today—without the typical industry BS.

My cybersecurity journey started in Dublin, where I worked as an escalation engineer with Symantec while pursuing a Master’s in Management of Information Systems at Trinity College. That’s where I fell in love with the intersection of technology and business—how security isn’t just a technical problem, it’s an organizational one.

Over the years, I’ve worked with organizations across Europe and beyond, from scrappy startups to established enterprises. I’ve seen what works and what’s just security theater. More recently, I co-founded the BARE ALLIANCE, a network of boutique cybersecurity consultancies dedicated to helping EU startups navigate security without the enterprise overhead.

What I actually do:

I translate regulations like NIS2 and DORA into security programs that pass audits. I build ISO 27001 and SOC 2 frameworks. I act as a fractional CISO for companies who need strategic security leadership but can’t justify (or don’t need) a full-time executive. And I partner with MSPs to deliver incident response services that don’t trap clients in vendor lock-in.

My approach? Deep technical expertise combined with practical business sense. Security should protect your organization, not paralyze it.

Beyond Cybersecurity: Helping Teams Work Better

Recently, I’ve added another dimension to my work: team development consulting.

Here’s the thing—I’ve always been fascinated by why some teams click and others constantly struggle. After years of building security programs, I realized that organizational resilience isn’t just about technology. It’s about people working together effectively.

That led me to the Working Genius framework developed by Patrick Lencioni. Unlike personality tests that tell you who you are, Working Genius identifies what kind of work energizes you versus what drains you. It’s been transformative for how I think about team dynamics.

My own Working Genius types are Invention and Galvanizing—I naturally generate creative solutions and rally people around shared visions. Understanding this has helped me work more effectively and build better teams. Now I help other organizations do the same through workshops and consulting under BARE Elevate.

What this looks like in practice: I help teams identify individual strengths, improve collaboration, reduce burnout by aligning people with work that energizes them, and create work environments where people actually want to show up.

Whether you’re a startup building your foundation or an established company trying to improve team performance, I can help you unlock your team’s collective potential.
